A New Zealand native shrub characterized by its vibrant red, beak-like flowers that appear in abundance during spring and summer, attracting nectar-feeding birds. It has a more upright form than its parent plant, Clianthus maximus. The shrub typically grows to a height and width of 2-3 metres.
