A native tree found in coastal and lowland forests from North Cape to Nelson in New Zealand. It's characterized by its attractive, glossy green leaves and fragrant, waxy white flowers that appear in clusters directly on the branches and trunk in early winter. The tree also produces orange fruits that take 15 months to ripen, splitting open to reveal scarlet capsules containing the seeds.
