Commonly known as Japanese Privet, this is a compact evergreen shrub with thick, glossy, rounded leaves that have a wavy texture. This plant is native to East Asia, particularly China and Japan, and is widely cultivated for its ornamental value. It typically grows to 1–1.5 metres tall and 1 metre wide. In summer, it produces clusters of small, fragrant white flowers, followed by black berries that attract birds. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. This shrub is also frost-hardy and responds well to pruning, making it a versatile option for a dense hedge.
